Jack and Bazeley got married at Danby Castle a little drive from Whitby. It’s always a challenge deciding the best date for your wedding, but sometimes the best day jumps out at you. Jack and Bazeley decided to go for the date of they got engaged. Perfect!
Danby Castle is a lovely hidden spot, nestled into the hillside with stunning views of the Esk Valley. Made up of the castle, the court room for the wedding ceremony and the barn for food and celebrating, as well as plenty of space to enjoy the grounds. Deciding on an autumnal wedding it was a beautiful cold and clear day giving us the most wonderful light.
With Danby not having accommodation on site it made a perfect excuse for a pre-wedding evening in Whitby. The guys stayed in separate airbnb’s in the centre of Whitby, both filled with plenty of character, and backed up by the Bridesmaids for support. It’s always nice to be able to capture both parts of the preparation so being a couple of streets away from each other when Jack jumped in the car I headed straight over to Bazeley for more preparation shots, which adds nicely to the story of the day. When the wedding car returned it was time to head off. What a car, a lovely white stretch VW beetle. I’ve always been a beetle fan since having my ’66 Cali style back in the day. What about the outfits, Jack went for his family tartan 3 piece kilt, and Bazeley went for a bespoke suit.
I made it over to Danby Castle in plenty of time for a slightly nervous Bazeley, nothing a whiskey couldn’t help with! The ceremony was lovely with plenty of laughter and the odd tear or two. Wedding tears of joy are not such a bad thing! Post ceremony it was time for drinks and a few portraits in the fading light before we headed into the barn for speeches. Opting for Swedish style speeches, this meant everyone got chance to share a story of the couple.
Not wanting any tummys rumbling the speeches were split between each course. It’s a great way of doing the speeches and allowed for some wonderful moments, along with so much hilarity.   Following on from the speeches we dug into a quiz about the couple. By the time this had finished it was totally dark outside, so we popped to get a few moody portraits. Then it was party time, pulling together a great first dance. As soon as it finished the dance floor went bonkers with everyone throwing some shapes!
